NRW faced the challenge of large amounts of paperwork, being completed manually, by staff working at over 50 sites. Couple this with inclement weather and awkward locations in the field where there are no office facilities and NRW realised they needed to harness technology to streamline their processes.
NRW decided to adopt elements of Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite to allow their field staff to complete documents on site, with access to the latest version of any NRW forms, and the completed information transmitted instantly to Head Office rather than waiting from teams to travel back to the office. Using Yammer, the field staff are able to ask for colleagues’ advice whilst on site as well as sharing projects that they are working on with the whole NRW team. Using templates completed via OneNote has provided consistency across the company for inspections and is proving to be both improving their standards of good practice as well as saving time. Using Skype for Business has encouraged greater internal collaboration and communication between staff and NRW have really reaped the benefit financially as well, reducing their monthly costs by over £18,000!
